People who come together at OIST, whether in the lab, in the office, or over tea, all have an opportunity to contribute to building a more inclusive community through everyday interactions, conversations, and decisions. At the institutional level in systems, policies, and practices, the core functions of equity work are coordinated and executed through these groups at OIST:

Health Center

  • The Health Center provides health care services to the OIST community in order to protect, promote and optimize health, prevent illness, and advocate in the care of individuals and families.

DEI Task Force

The DEI Task Force is a permanent structure for ongoing efforts to create an equitable and inclusive culture at OIST, building upon the foundations of earlier efforts to eliminate inequities and barriers to opportunity. The DEI Task Force includes representation from stakeholder groups across the university and is charged with coordinating inclusive excellence at OIST.

What is inclusive excellence?

Excellence in research, education, work success, innovation and creativity is only possible through equity and inclusion and the
cultivation of an environment where all members have a sense of belonging, are valued, and can thrive. Progress toward inclusive excellence depends on our identification and examination of all of our systems, policies, and practices in order to remove bias and barriers to opportunity and success.
