OIST Sea neXus is the new marine science facility at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), designed to serve as a hub for research, education, and collaboration. As part of OIST’s Core Facilities, OIST Sea neXus provides shared experimental space and resources to support cutting-edge marine science and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Expanding on the foundation of OIST’s Marine Science Station, OIST Sea neXus features ten modular laboratories that can be flexibly configured for a wide range of research - from coral, fish, and cephalopod biology to microbial ecology, aquaculture, and marine technology. Each lab supports flow-through natural seawater or recirculating systems, with full control over all environmental conditions.
Supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), OIST Sea neXus was established through the Regional Core and Distinctive Research University Program, a national initiative to promote industry–academia–government collaboration and joint research infrastructure
