Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (hereinafter referred to as “OIST”) is an innovative, interdisciplinary graduate school that uniquely combines a 5-year PhD program in science and technology, with a focus on excellence in research, education, and innovation. Established by the Japanese government to foster scientific and technological advancement globally, OIST also aims to contribute to the sustainable development of Okinawa. The university attracts a diverse and international group of students, faculty, and staff, creating a dynamic academic environment that emphasizes cross-disciplinary research and education.
Research data is valuable not only for the researchers who obtained them but also for the science community at large. Therefore, we have formulated the following policy on Research Data Management and Publication to contribute to the development of academic research and promoting the publication of research data.
(Research Data)
1. The term “Research data” as used in this policy refers to any digital or non-digital information collected, generated, stored, and processed to produce and validate any original research results.
(Management of Research Data)
2. OIST Researchers who have collected or generated research data have the right and responsibility to implement Research Data Management (RDM). The researchers at OIST must implement RDM in compliance of legal and ethical requirements and in accordance with OIST PRP 4.11.3 “Management of Research Data and Laboratory Notebooks”.
(Publication of Research Data)
3. To promote the development and sustainability of academic research, OIST researchers shall publicize their research data as much as possible by subscribing to the legal and ethical requirements and best practices of their respective fields. Requirements which are further clarified in “OIST Guidelines on Archival and Disclosure of Research Data, Laboratory Notebooks, Research Specimens and Chemicals” from OIST PRP 4.11.3.

4. OIST is responsible for providing and developing the environment to support the management and publication of research data.

5. OIST will review the policy as needed in response to changes in society and academic circumstances.
