About OCQT

What OCQT is

The OIST Center for Quantum Technologies (OCQT) was established in 2022 to bring together researchers across OIST working in quantum science and technology and to foster new interdisciplinary collaborations.

OCQT spans a broad range of research areas, including quantum computing, quantum communication and networks, quantum sensing, cryptography and cybersecurity, quantum materials, and fundamental quantum science. By connecting experimental and theoretical expertise across OIST, the Center provides an environment for developing new ideas and technologies that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries.

OCQT aims to advance our understanding of the quantum world while contributing to the development of transformative quantum technologies.

The Center promotes interdisciplinary research, connects complementary expertise across OIST, and creates opportunities for collaboration with universities, research institutions, government, and industry in Japan and internationally.

The Second Quantum Revolution

Advances in our ability to control individual quantum systems are enabling a new generation of technologies based directly on quantum phenomena such as superposition, entanglement, and quantum coherence.

Often described as the "Second Quantum Revolution," these developments are opening new possibilities in computing, communication, sensing, simulation, security, and other areas. OCQT brings together expertise across OIST to explore both the fundamental science behind these phenomena and their potential technological applications.

Beyond Research

Beyond its research activities, OCQT supports international conferences and workshops, seminars and colloquia, educational and human resource development programs, outreach activities, and collaboration with academic, government, and industry partners.

Through these activities, the Center contributes to the development of a vibrant quantum ecosystem in Okinawa, Japan, and internationally.
