OIST, through its Center for Quantum Technologies (OCQT), and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), through its Global Research and Development Center for Business by Quantum-AI Technology (G-QuAT), established a formal collaboration in 2025 to strengthen cooperation in quantum computing technology.
The partnership aims to contribute to the social implementation of quantum computing technologies and the development of an international quantum ecosystem in Japan. Through the collaboration, OIST and AIST seek to expand joint activities in research, education, outreach, and networking. These objectives closely reflect the purpose and areas of cooperation established in the MOU.
Areas of cooperation include the exchange of scientists, researchers, and staff, the development of globally active quantum talent, and joint outreach activities such as seminars, symposiums, and other opportunities for scientific exchange. The collaboration provides a framework for developing activities that connect OIST students and researchers with AIST's quantum research environment, including researcher exchange, institutional visits, and opportunities for student training.
