Convergence: Fostering Interdisciplinary Collaboration for Solving Complex Problems

COI-NEXT Annual Symposium

Tuesday, February 25, 2025 - 14:00 to Wednesday, February 26, 2025 - 17:00
Sydney Brenner Lecture Theater (B250)

Building on last year’s emphasis on industry collaborations, this year’s symposium shifts focus inward, spotlighting the transformative potential of academic collaboration and interdisciplinarity. It will explore how cross-field convergence is key to addressing the complex, interconnected challenges facing the world today.

The theme of "Convergence" reflects OIST's founding vision, aiming to strengthen internal academic synergies. By fostering collaboration across diverse fields, the OIST COI-NEXT Program seeks to develop holistic, integrated solutions within the One World - One Health initiative, promoting a unified approach to global health and well-being.

Oto・Iro Installation

February 3, 2025 to March 3, 2025
Location: OIST Tunnel Gallery

Oto・Iro (Sound ・ Color) transforms the OIST tunnel into an immersive audio-visual experience that blends art and science, and features original field recordings from all over Okinawa.

It’s part installation, part experiment.

We are testing how natural and synthetic sounds can influence our emotions and state of mind, especially when mixed with projected colors. Help us by walking through the tunnel and sharing your experience via the terminals at each end!

As a small token of our thanks, we hope you will feel a sense of calm and renewal each time you pass through — a brief but meaningful moment of peace in your day.
