House Hunting General Flow:
Initial Cost Expected:
When renting an apartment in Okinawa, the initial costs typically amount to 4 times the monthly rent.
- This includes key money, deposit, agency fees, and other charges.
- Additional funds will be needed for daily expenses and the first month’s rent.
Ensure you have sufficient cash or access to funds. If necessary, arrange for international remittance with your bank once your account in Okinawa is set up.
On-Campus Housing:
If you prefer living on campus, contact the OIST Building and Facility Management Section.
Note: If there is a waiting list for on-campus housing, we recommend starting your off-campus housing search simultaneously.
Monthly Apartment (Temporary Housing):
If your move-in date for permanent housing is later than the maximum 21-day stay in temporary accommodation, you can request a monthly apartment as an interim solution.
- Cost: Approximately 100,000 JPY to 120,000 JPY per month.
- Important: You cannot register a monthly apartment address as your residency at the municipal offce.
