The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) has welcomed Dr. Takao Toda as the Chief Operating Officer.
Dr. Toda comes to OIST bringing over 35 years of professional experience primarily with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), having served as Deputy Director of Reform Promotion Division, Group Director of Peace-building/Human Security, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office, Director General of Human Development Department, and Vice President for Global Health and Human Security.
He has been deeply involved in strategy formation and implementation for a wide range of activities strengthening international cooperation with well over 100 countries, promoting almost all sectors of development including health, education, water, sanitation, food, agriculture, transportation, telecommunication, renewable energy, environmental protection, disaster relief, and governance. He has an extensive history of supporting globally minded higher education, playing key roles in the establishment and advancement of new universities such as the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology and the Vietnam-Japan University. Dr. Toda also serves as a visiting professor at Juntendo University and International University of Health and Welfare, and has lectured at universities throughout Japan.
Dr. Toda comments, “As OIST continues to grow, meet the challenges of the future, and contribute to the development of Okinawa Prefecture, Dr. Toda will ensure the entire staff work cohesively and efficiently to meet the high expectations of our stakeholders both locally and globally.”
