The FDSF Japan Tour supports innovation and startup creation through science to address regional issues, with the power of finance backing these initiatives. Every year, FDSF, the Future Design Initiative for Science & Finance holds events nationwide to promote science-based innovation and future-oriented financing. This year, the tour will be held in Okinawa, which has unique regional challenges. The event will bring together Okinawa’s industrial, academic, and financial communities to explore new collaborative possibilities and share the latest knowledge on GX (Green Transformation), circular economy models, and startup support.

Science Day Gunma 2025 is a special event for high school students to celebrate the 100th anniversary of quantum mechanics, co-hosted by Gunma University and OIST. Participants will learn about cutting-edge quantum technologies and hear from young researchers working in this global field. The event includes lectures and a career seminar, with English as the main language and Japanese support available.

Science Day Gunma 2025 は、量子力学100周年を記念して開催される、高校生向けの特別イベントです。群馬大学とOISTの共催で行われます。参加者は、最先端の量子技術について学び、この分野で活躍する若手研究者の話を聞くことができます。イベントは講義やキャリアセミナーで構成され、使用言語は英語ですが、日本語サポートも提供されます。

This informal lunchtime event is a chance for new postdocs to meet each other, veteran postdocs, and members of the wider researcher community at OIST. For centuries, cephalopods, including octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish, have fascinated artists and artisans across many coastal cultures, and have been represented in many ways. However, cephalopods remain mysterious creatures that are hard to encounter in real life. In this video exhibition, renowned marine life photographer Ryo Minemizu, provides us with a glimpse into the biology, behavior, and unique genetic features of these marine invertebrates. This exhibition is organized by the Cephalopod International Advisory Council 2025 and hosted by the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology.

Marcus Liwicki – and a surprise guest from the future – will attend explore how AI can become a powerful tool for everyone. Join them on a journey through time to discover how curiosity and hands-on learning can unlock the full potential of human-centered AI – today, tomorrow, and beyond. Furthermore, Marcus will highlight some general AI research directions and focus in Sweden as well as a few highlights from the gender-balanced Machine Learning group at LTU, which he leads as chaired professor.

Dear all,    (See below for Japanese)    In addition to the October 9 school fair that will focus on local schools in Okinawa, we are planning to host two virtual school fairs this October to introduce additional educational options. All interested families are welcome to join, regardless of the age of your children. (Children are welcome to attend as well!)    The two sessions have been organized based on the type of school experience provided: international boarding schools in Japan and online learning programs (full-time and subject-based options). All of these options use an English-based curriculum and are either in Japan or can accommodate students based in Japan. We welcome you to attend either or both sessions.
