Join an international research team working at the interface of chemistry, materials science, and chemical engineering. We welcome motivated researchers and students interested in developing sustainable materials and catalytic systems for energy and environmental applications.
Explore the route that best matches your career stage.
1. As a Ph.D student
One PhD student could join our group each year. We welcome applicants with backgrounds in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields.
- Photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, and photoelectrocatalysis
- Heterogeneous catalyst design from single atoms to nanostructures
- Surface and interface chemistry
- Mechanistic and operando characterization
- DFT-supported computational studies
What to send
- A curriculum vitae
- Academic transcripts
- Your motivation for joining the team
- Your specific research interests
- Possible start dates
Information about Ph.D. graduate studies and the formal application process is available on the OIST Website.
2. As an intern
One B.S. or M.S. student may join our group each year through an internship.
Applicants should have a strong interest in heterogeneous catalysis, sustainable materials, photo/electrocatalysis, CO₂ conversion, biomass valorization, plastic upcycling, or related areas.
What to send
- A curriculum vitae
- Your motivation for joining the team
- Your specific research interests
- Possible start dates
- Available or secured funding, if applicable
Applications should be sent to JINSUN.LEE@OIST.JP
3. As a postdoctoral researcher
Applications are considered on a rolling basis.
Our currently funded postdoctoral positions are fully filled. However, new funding opportunities may become available periodically, and we are also interested in supporting strong candidates applying for external fellowships. Because fellowship applications often require substantial preparation, please contact Prof. Jinsun Lee as early as possible and indicate your preferred start date. Early contact allows sufficient time to assess mutual research interests, identify suitable funding opportunities, and develop a competitive proposal.
Suitably qualified candidates may also be considered for a staff scientist position (for those with more than five years of postdoctoral experience).>
Applications should be sent to JINSUN.LEE@OIST.JP
What to send
- A curriculum vitae
- Your motivation for joining the team
- Your research interests and goals
- A list of three referees
- Suitable funding schemes and their deadlines (international fellowship programs as well as JSPS fellowship)
