He has a proven track record of driving successful technology transfer operations globally, with a particular focus on developing business and commercial strategies, raising capital, and establishing strategic partnerships. His work has been instrumental in bridging academia and industry, resulting in the creation of numerous startups, the negotiation of over 200 licensing agreements, and the generation of over $500 million in revenue from various sources, including royalties and milestone payments.

Current Role at OIST 

As the Executive Vice President at OIST, Gil leads the university’s technology transfer, entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic development unit—OIST Innovation. In addition, Gil is leading the development of OIST’s outreach activity, OIST Energy Testbed, and the COI-NEXT Bio-Convergance Center at OIST. Under his leadership, OIST Innovation has become a pivotal entity within the university, fostering collaborations with leading Japanese corporations and expanding the university’s global acceleration program. He was instrumental in launching an industry membership program with over 50 registered members and creating a 5 billion JPY affiliated venture fund. Gil also spearheaded the establishment of a new university center for Bio-Convergence with secured long-term funding and led the development of new incubation facilities on campus.
