OIST Public Lecture “The Science of Harmony” was held at the OIST Science Studio

On March 7, 2026 (Saturday), the OIST Public Lecture “The Science of Harmony” took place at the OIST Science Studio (Yun–Labo Mirai Kan). The lecture featured Dr. Naomichi Hatano, Professor at the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo and a domestic visitor under the OIST Visiting Program, who gave an accessible talk—using clear examples—on how harmonies are created and the scientific principles behind them.

Approximately 60 participants attended the event, and questions began to flow not only during the lecture but also toward the end, reflecting the audience’s high level of engagement. After the session concluded, many attendees approached Dr. Hatano with additional inquiries, and he took the time to respond to each one, creating a warm and interactive atmosphere.

OIST will continue to provide opportunities for the local community to engage with science through a variety of outreach activities.
