Marine Day Kids Lecture "Clownfish and Sea Anemones: a Strange Friendship Under the Sea

On Monday, July 20, 2026, OIST hosted a kids lecture titled "Clownfish and Sea Anemones: A Strange Friendship Under the Sea" at the OIST Auditorium, with approximately 350 participants in attendance.

The lecture was presented by Professor Vincent Laudet of the OIST Marine Eco-Evo-Devo Unit. He introduced children to the fascinating relationship between clownfish and sea anemones, explaining how these two species live together through symbiosis. Children also had the opportunity to ask Professor Laudet questions directly about marine life and his research, giving them a chance to interact with a scientist and learn more about marine science. To conclude the lecture, Professor Laudet encouraged everyone to help protect coral reefs and preserve Okinawa's beautiful marine environment.

The event also featured an exhibition by the Naha Coast Guard Office, where visitors learned about dangerous marine creatures through interactive displays. The Coast Guard's mascot also made a special appearance, interacting with participants throughout the event.
