OIST and Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology conducted research that successfully assembled the genome and transcriptome of the kuruma shrimp. The researchers estimated that the shrimp genome contains approximately 26,000 genes and obtained genome sequence data covering about 88% of the genome. The resulting genetic resource is expected to support research on disease resistance, selective breeding, and fisheries resource management.
