Spinning diamagnetic rotor
Slowed only by air friction at ambient pressure, the diamagnetically levitating graphite rotor measuring about 1cm in diameter is a promising platform for fundamental physics research and applications in ultraprecise sensors. The figurines next to the stack of magnets are shisas, mythological lion-dogs from Okinawan folklore that are said to ward off evil spirits.
