OIST POWER Club

POWER Club

POWER stands for the Promotion of Okinawan Welfare, Economy, and Resources. The OIST POWER Club is an initiative devoted to improving the lives of Okinawans through charitable activities. The club helps local communities in need, both in times of economic crisis and on a regular basis. By communicating with local charities and non-profit organizations (NPOs), the POWER club identifies issues that can be addressed by the OIST community and helps organize charity drives to collect and distribute funds, food, or basic necessities to those who need them most.

POWER Club Clothing Drives:

The POWER club arranges clothing drives to help donate clothing from the OIST community to local NPOs. These NPOs either deliver the clothes directly to families in need or sell them at their shops, where all proceeds go directly towards impoverished families. The organizations involved support orphanages, shelters, and victims of domestic violence. To date, the POWER Club has organized three clothing drives, donating more than 930kg of clothes, and plans to arrange more events soon.

POWER Club Food Drives:

The POWER club organizes food drives to collect essential food items to donate to local NPOs, which then re-distribute the donated food to families in need. This project aims to help stamp out poverty and hunger in Okinawa. To date, the POWER Club has arranged three food drives and plans to organize more in the future.
