Science Tech Festival in Ishigaki

On October 11, 2026, OIST participated in the Science Tech Festival in Ishigaki, held as part of the FY2026 Children’s Science and Technology Talent Development Program.

At the event, Cedric Aumont from OIST’s Evolutionary Genomics Unit conducted a workshop titled “Termites Aren’t Ants!? Let’s Discover Their Secrets!” Participants observed live termites up close and learned about their characteristics and the termite species found in Okinawa.

The event also featured an OIST exhibition and a “Become a Scientist” corner, giving children from the remote islands an opportunity to engage with science and learn more about OIST.
