OIST developed a scalable automated aquaculture platform that uses light-guided movement and water flow to automate hatching and animal transfer processes. The system was initially designed for cephalopod research and was successfully tested on multiple cephalopod species. By reducing direct handling and integrating IoT-enabled monitoring of environmental conditions, the platform minimizes animal stress, pathogen exposure, and labor requirements while improving survival and animal welfare.
