OIST supported the establishment of Kwahuu Ocean Inc., a startup founded to commercialize sustainable squid aquaculture technologies developed through research at OIST. Building on technologies that enabled the successful breeding of squid across ten generations, the company aims to develop small-scale distributed aquaculture systems for sustainable squid production. In addition to aquaculture, the company is exploring approaches that integrate marine habitat restoration, fisheries collaboration, and food production to support sustainable marine resource use and preserve local food culture.
