OIST and NTT have expanded their ongoing collaboration by partnering with the Meteorological Research Institute (MRI). Using autonomous marine observation vehicles and ocean observation buoys, the team will collect atmospheric and ocean surface data that are difficult to capture with existing satellite observations alone. The project aims to improve understanding of how typhoons and linear precipitation zones develop and contribute to more accurate weather forecasting.
