The 15th Annual SCORE! (Science in Okinawa: Research and Entrepreneurship)
SCORE! (Science in Okinawa: Research and Entrepreneurship) is a program designed to provide high school students in Okinawa with hands-on science education, foster an entrepreneurial mindset, and support English education and global talent development.
This year’s competition brought together approximately 25 students from seven high schools across the prefecture. Six teams competed in the final round, and four teams participated in the poster presentation session.
The top prize in the final round was awarded to a team from Okinawa Prefectural Kyuyo Senior High School for their project, “Turning Ant Society’s ‘Strength’ into a ‘Weakness’: A Novel Pest Control Strategy Using Allogrooming.” As part of their award, the team received a study tour to the United States, as well as the opportunity to participate in an internship at OIST.
At the conclusion of the event, Assistant Professor Kazumasa Tanaka, who served as Chief Judge, delivered closing remarks and praised the winning team, noting that the way they conducted their experiments was much like that of professional researchers.
He also encouraged all participants to continue nurturing their spirit of inquiry and to persevere through both the successes and failures that are an essential part of scientific research.
With these inspiring words, the competition came to a successful close.
