NTT, Inc., OIST, and the Meteorological Research Institute are expanding their collaborative weather observation efforts to better understand both typhoons and linear rainbands. Building on successful typhoon observations conducted around Okinawa, the project will extend monitoring activities into the East China Sea, where researchers will directly observe water vapor over the ocean. The data collected will help improve understanding of how extreme weather develops and support more accurate forecasting of heavy rainfall and typhoons.
