Message from the School

Here is information the school would like you to know (Special programs, philosophy, motto, etc)

In Okinawa, every school is quite different.  Each school has different goals, environments, and approaches to learning.  Not every school will align with a family's needs or the student’s learning style.  We encourage you to visit the various schools to see what aligns with your family’s goals.

At Hope we focus on the student’s ability to take action in their learning.  Critical thinking, problem solving, design challenges, analytical thinking, and personal growth is where we focus our attention.  We want students to be successful no matter where they go in the world or what they choose to do.  Our curriculum is not test based, but rather focused on student output, action, and individual growth (both academic and social).  By maintaining the rigorous standards outlined by the IPC/IMYC & Clonlara, and holding students to the highest expectations, we challenge all students to grow, no matter their current level, skills, and achievements.

What curriculum and textbooks are used? The preschool follows the International Early Years Curriculum. In Elementary they follow the International Primary Curriculum and in Middle School the International Middle Years Curriculum, both of which align with British education standards. They provide project-based learning lessons, where the activities are often student-led. In High School, we offer Cambridge IGCSE for grades 9-10.  Grades 11-12 use an off-campus program from the U.S.  This will be phased out and replaced with Cambridge A-Levels.
What entrance examinations are there?

Entrance is through the MAP testing program. Students are tested on both their English and mathematics skills. The entrance exam can be taken remotely.  There is also a parent interview.

What afterschool options are available?

Hope’s club offerings are updated every semester, but have included: Robotics and Programming, Young Engineers, Snorkeling, Brazilian Soccer, Karate, Cultural Dance, MakerSpace, School Publications, Student Council, and Pastry club, Yoga club, Debate club, Volleyball, Origami club...

What big school trips are available during the year? Each class typically takes between 2 to 4 field trips throughout the year.  Middle School will go on an overnight class trip in Okinawa.  This will happen at the end of the school year.  The High school goes on trips to different areas of mainland Japan.  This also happens at the end of the school year.
