Okinawa Christian School International, known as OCSI, is one of the closest international schools to OIST and the largest in Okinawa, serving approximately 600 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. OCSI offers a well-rounded education that prepares students for a successful future, rooted in strong Christian values and academic excellence. English is the primary language of instruction, with multiple levels of Japanese language classes.  As an independent private Christian school, we blend the strengths of various academic models to meet our students' unique needs. Our rigorous and competitive program is grounded in our values of excellence, growth, and service.
 
Graduates from OCSI attend universities and colleges worldwide, including institutions in Japan. The school provides a range of services, including lunch programs, bus transportation, after-school care, athletics, and various clubs, to support the overall development of its students. Our diverse faculty from around the world is dedicated to nurturing our students' growth. Application and Admission Dates

Immediate enrollment is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, pending available space and acceptance. General applications and student interviews for the August start take place between January and April each year.

Bus Availability and Routs

OCSI offers 6 bus routes with stops on OIST campus. This is an additional fee, Zone 2 pricing. Options are one-way or round-trip.

School Lunch Availability

OCSI offers an annual lunch service, provided by Cezars Kitchen. Elementary Students (K-G5) ¥123,000. Secondary Students (G6-12) ¥134,000.

School Day start and finish times

Students can arrive on campus from 8:00 am. For SY26-27, classes will begin at 8:15 am and end at 3:15 pm.

School Year (with semester breaks)

The 2026-2027 academic year follows a 180-day schedule that blends American and Japanese observances.

Academic Year Framework:

  • Start Date: Aug 24, 2026.
  • End Date: Jun 10, 2027 (Early dismissal at 12:30 PM).

Major School Breaks:

  • Fall: Several long weekends in Sep and Oct, plus a two-day break for Thanksgiving (Nov 26-27).
  • Winter: Christmas Break runs from Dec 18 through Jan 04.
  • Spring: A full week for Spring Break (Mar 29–Apr 02) and a short break for Golden Week (May 03-04).

FAQ

What grades are offered? The school currently offers Kindergarten through High School.
Curriculum and textbooks are used? OCSI uses a variety of national curriculums and textbooks including: Common core, NGSS, Aero, Houghton Miffin, McGrawHill, Holt McDougal, Foss and AP Courses.
What entrance examinations are there? Admission to OCSI takes into consideration a combination of the application documents, an interview, and a reading & math assessment. Students applying for grades 4-12 will take the computer-based MAP Growth assessment from NWEA. Students applying to grades K-3 will have an individualized assessment.
What afterschool options are available? From kindergarten to grade 5, students are able to stay in the afterschool care program until 18:00. Students can access a wide range of afterschool clubs, sports, and activities for an additional fee. Please note bus services are not available following afterschool activities.
Is there a sibling discount? There is a re-enrollment discount for siblings.
What are the different nationalities of students represented? Dual- 23%, Japanese – 45%, USA -20%, Other – 12%
How much time is devoted to students attending chapel? Students from all grade levels attend chapel once a week for a total of about 30 mins per week.
What big school trips are available during the year? 5th grade – travel to Kansai on a cultural trip which lasts three days, 8th grade – travel to Nagasaki, 12th grade – travel to Taiwan/mainland for 4 days.
What is currently being developed at the school? We are excited to be in the process of expanding our facilities to include a new state-of-the-art multipurpose facility, gymnasium, cafeteria, and office space as well as a new elementary playground. Additionally, we are looking forward to growth in our service learning program and capstone projects in 5th, 8th, and 12th grade.
What is the student-teacher ratio? Kindergarten: 10-1; Elementary School: 22 students/class and one teaching assistant shared between two classes.
What additional support is provided for students? Students from K-8 have access to additional Literacy Support (ESL) as needed and there is a middle and high school resource class to offer additional support to students.
