2. Supports for Research Intern Program

  • Internship day: Monday to Friday (Excluding Japanese National Holidays)
  • Amount: Per-diem payment 2,400 JPY/day
  • Payment day: 4th Friday of the following month
  • Payment Method: A wire transfer will be made to your bank account in your home country.

< Important note>

  • The first payment will be made in the month following the one in which you begin the program
  • The average cost of living is approximately 50,000 JPY per month.
  • Please bring at least two months’ worth of living expenses in cash.
  • Currency exchange services may be limited in Okinawa. We recommend converting your money into Japanese yen before your arrival.

Coming to OIST

The Graduate School Relocation Team will contact you approximately three months before your program begins to initiate the visa application process for your entry into Japan. Travel arrangements will be made once the Graduate School confirms that your visa has been issued.

Step 1. CoE and visa preparation (*if applicable)

             - Begin 3 months prior from your Arrival

Step 2. Complete survey (*The survey link will be shared by OIST)
              - Incoming Student Survey
              - Emergency Contact Information

Step 3. Apply CoE (*by OIST)

              - OIST apply CoE to the immigration office in Japan (*if applicable)

Step 4. Complete "Guest Registration Form"(*The link will be shared by OIST)

Step 5. CoE issuance (*by OIST)

             - OIST will receive CoE and the data will be sent to the student 

Step 6. Student Apply for the visa (*if applicable)

Step 7. Share visa information to OIST (*if applicable)

Step 8. Travel arrangement begin (*by OIST)

Step 9. Receive arrival information (*by OIST)

              - Flight ticket information
              - Transportation information       

Step 10. Receive on-campus housing information

              - Information will be sent 3 weeks prior from your arrival

Step 11. Take a flight to OIST

Before your departure

Make sure to read this thoroughly before beginning the Research Internship Program and getting ready for departure.

 

Mandatory Orientation

Once your Research Internship Program begins, attending the orientation and completing the mandatory training are the requirements for receiving the Certificate of Completion for your Research Internship at the university. The Research Internship Orientation Materials are available below.
