OIST Testbed Symposium: Advancing Regional Challenge-Driven Demonstration Projects
On Friday, March 27, 2026, we held a symposium to report on the results of demonstration projects conducted under the OIST Testbed Initiative. The event was held in a hybrid format, combining an in-person session at the OIST Sydney Brenner Lecture Theater (B250) with a live stream via Zoom webinar.
The symposium brought together partner companies—including Okinawa Electric Power Company, Bolteo, Mitsubishi Corp., Next Mobility, and Vyorius—as well as policymakers, local government officials, and corporate representatives from various sectors. Participants shared the results of demonstration projects across three key areas: Energy, Mobility, and Drone Logistics.
The event began with an online address from the Cabinet Office, followed by a comprehensive results report from OIST and a roundtable discussion featuring experts. During the roundtable, participants engaged in active discussions on pathways toward for societal implementation in the coming fiscal year and beyond, as well as cross-sectoral integrated solutions, grounded in the unique challenges faced by Okinawa as an island region.
The event concluded with a substantive discussion on how to translate the demonstration projects into concrete social implementation, making it a meaningful symposium that paved the way for a sustainable future.
The initiatives presented also align with the J-PEAKS philosophy of supporting regional contribution and social implementation.
