Sharing common challenges toward gateway function, bridging Japan and the world
One of the objectives of our J-PEAKS project is to strengthen our gateway function, bridging Japan and the world. This initiative aims to contribute to the internationalization and advancement of domestic researchers and universities. To achieve this, we are working to establish a system that allows us to collaborate with Japanese universities to address mutual challenges. As part of this effort, we organized information exchange meetings, including campus tours, to introduce OIST's unique initiatives and learn from the visiting universities.
In 2024, we held information exchange meetings with the following universities, engaging in lively discussions on various aspects such as research promotion, internationalization, human resources, public relations, and research support:
- October: Okayama University, Shinshu University
- October: The University of Tokyo
- November: Kyushu University
- November: Kanazawa University
- December: Hokkaido University
Throughout these meetings, we confirmed key areas of our colleague universities' interest, including support systems for international and interdisciplinary environments, faculty evaluation, mechanisms for promoting international collaborative research, and public relations strategies. These insights will serve as valuable clues for concretizing the overall plan of the J-PEAKS project moving forward.
We intend to make effective use of the insights gained through these exchanges of information in parallel with the implementation of J-PEAKS measures, presenting them as concrete case studies and best practices.
