OIST selected for Regional Core University Innovation Creation Enhancement Project to drive new value creation from Okinawa

OIST to play key role in building a sustainable innovation environment by connecting local communities with industry, and by promoting research in next-gen energy and advanced technologies.

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) has been selected for the FY2024 “Regional Core University Innovation Creation Enhancement Program” by the Cabinet Office. With this, OIST will work to drive innovation through research, education and the participation of various stakeholders in research testbeds, with the goal of actualizing the "Public Private University Partnership (PUPP) Okinawa Model”. This will pave the way for fruitful collaborations with institutions and companies throughout Japan and abroad, as well as fostering a startup ecosystem in Okinawa. The aims of these initiatives are to create new jobs, strengthen the competitiveness of the local economy, and contribute to solving regional challenges while ensuring sustainable growth. Upon the announcement of the selection, Gil Granot-Mayer, Executive Vice President for Technology Development and Innovation at OIST, commented that “this selection marks an important step for OIST as we work together with the community to promote research and innovation aimed at realizing a sustainable society.
