Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) recently received donations from Thermo Fisher Scientific Japan FEI Company Japan Ltd. and Japan Laser Corporation. These contributions were the first in a naming gift fundraising campaign. In recognition of these generous donations, two nameplates have been installed on chairs in the OIST Auditorium.

OIST offers naming rights for its facilities to corporate and individual supporters who share the university’s values and support its mission and vision. Facilities currently available for naming rights include chairs in the auditorium, classrooms, and the pond in the Center Court.

Tatsuya Yoshihara, President of Thermo Fisher Scientific FEI Company Japan Ltd. (Minato-ku, Tokyo), explained the reasons for his support for OIST by saying, "Our two philosophies are in line with each other: OIST's goal is 'advancing the science and technology worldwide' and our company's goal is 'making the world a healthier, cleaner, and safer place'."

Hiroyuki Uemura, Managing Director of Japan Laser Corporation (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo), expressed his expectations for the future of OIST, saying, "We hope to contribute to OIST's research — that will lead the next generation of science."
