Proof-of-concept biosensor diagram

The DNA, enzyme, and other compounds needed for DNA replication are placed in a liquid and loaded onto the plastic chip (“fluid in”). Here, the DNA (“substrate”) sticks to the nanomushroom structures while the reaction takes place. This is picked up by a sensor that detects changes in light absorbance corresponding to the reaction. The results are then fed to a screen.
