Advances in Photoemission Techniques: Probing Space, Energy, Momentum, and Time
Description
Photoemission spectroscopy and microscopy have long been essential tools in physics and chemistry, providing profound insights into electronic structures and surface phenomena. Over the past decade, however, the field has experienced a remarkable wave of technological innovation that has dramatically expanded its capabilities and scientific reach.
Recent advancements have made it possible to go beyond traditional energy-resolved measurements. Techniques now exist that enable ultra-high spatial resolution imaging, momentum-resolved mapping, and time-resolved studies of ultrafast dynamics. The integration of these dimensions—space, energy, momentum, and time—has opened the door to a new era of photoemission science. These breakthroughs have not only deepened our understanding of fundamental physical and chemical processes but have also begun to influence emerging fields such as biology, where visualization of dynamic and nanoscale phenomena is increasingly important.
At the same time, the applicability of photoemission techniques to industrial and technological domains—such as semiconductors, quantum materials, and energy-related devices—is gaining momentum. As these technologies mature, their potential to contribute to practical innovations is growing rapidly.
This workshop aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent developments in photoemission-based microscopy and spectroscopy, while also highlighting cutting-edge applications across disciplines. By bringing together experts in instrumentation, fundamental science, and applied research, we hope to foster new collaborations and perspectives.
A key objective of this meeting is to actively involve early-career researchers and students, offering them a platform to present their work and engage in forward-looking discussions. Their participation is essential to ensure the continued evolution and vitality of the field. In addition to supporting their scientific development, the workshop will serve as a networking hub for the next generation of photoemission scientists, helping them build international connections and long-term collaborations.
We also aim to stimulate bold, interdisciplinary dialogue that bridges traditional academic boundaries and explores the possibility of new, cross-cutting scientific paradigms. Ultimately, the meeting aspires to chart the future of photoemission science—not only as a diagnostic method but as a driver of innovation across the physical, chemical, biological, and industrial sciences.
