From a background in the law and corporate governance, Melanie has focused her career on the realization of major strategic initiatives in the research and higher education sector. Melanie has a deep professional interest in the culture of organizations and how to create working environments which enable people to realize their full potential. Outside work, she has a strong personal interest in the better understanding and treatment of mental health. Before moving to Okinawa, she was a trustee of the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, a world-leading mental health charity for children and families based in the UK Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families .
