CNRS Biology’s Latest Newsletter Spotlights IRLs cross the Pacific
This new CNRS Biology initiative builds directly on the West Pacific Network for Marine Biology, which we established in 2022 to strengthen scientific connections and collaborations between marine biology research groups across the Western Pacific.
CNRS Biology is strengthening its international strategy in marine biology across the Pacific, building collaborations with leading institutions in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia. Six collaborative projects have been selected, connecting CNRS laboratories with partners across the region and addressing fundamental questions in marine biodiversity, evolution and adaptation to environmental change.
Two of these projects focus on clownfish and directly involve our research network. They use clownfish as a model to understand how marine organisms develop, adapt and respond to their environment, combining approaches in evolution, developmental biology, physiology and ecology. These projects illustrate particularly well the ambition of the new Pacific initiative: connecting complementary expertise across countries to study marine organisms in their natural environmental and evolutionary context.
