OIST, Ryuseki, the University of the Ryukyus, and JANUS signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the Okinawa Blue Carbon Project. The collaboration will focus on establishing a research platform for blue carbon ecosystems across Okinawa, creating a collaborative platform for businesses and environmental organizations, and expanding environmental education and public awareness activities. The project aims to restore and protect ecosystems such as mangroves and seagrass beds, which play an important role in carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation. Through scientific research, environmental monitoring, and stakeholder engagement, the partners seek to contribute to carbon neutrality, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable regional development in Okinawa.
