SEED Program: Hope International Academy Okinawa Visited OIST
Hope International Academy Okinawa students visited OIST and experienced its research environment through career talks, scientific lectures, hands-on activities, and a campus tour.
In the morning, OIST PhD student Milena Dobronos (Protein Engineering and Evolution Unit) gave a career talk.
Through lectures and hands-on activities, students learned about chemical reactions and how enzymes work.
In the afternoon, Roger Huerlimann (Marine Climate Change Unit) gave a lecture introducing how DNA is used to study marine life and biodiversity.
This was followed by a hands-on DNA extraction activity supported by OIST PhD student Johanna Linnea Johansson (Marine Climate Change Unit), where students extracted DNA from strawberries and kiwis.
