Shravan Pradeep

Shravan Pradeep is an experimental soft matter researcher with interdisciplinary training spanning colloid and surface chemistry, transport phenomena, rheo-tribology, and biofluid dynamics. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from NC State University, where he worked under Prof. Lilian Hsiao to explore design rules for engineering macroscopic shock absorption and elasticity in soft particulate systems by tuning colloidal-scale surface chemistry. Currently, as a Penn Center for Soft and Living Matter Postdoc Fellow, he collaborates with Profs. Douglas Jerolmack and Paulo Arratia to probe the multiscale mechanics of soft soils and bacterial suspensions. His research highlights the unique balance of cohesive, frictional, viscous, and active elements that governs macroscopic properties in complex soil systems, driving applications in precision agriculture, ecological engineering, and planetary exploration. At OIST, his unit will explore the emergence of soil functions as a multiscale evolutionary response to persistent environmental excitations
