Masayuki Shibata
Dr. Masayuki SHIBATA has accumulated over a decade of expertise in university management at national universities and OIST. Over the past ten-plus years, he has served as a member of senior executive leadership at Kyushu University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and OIST, delivering tangible results in major initiatives such as campus relocations, wide-ranging reforms of personnel systems, and the development of new revenue streams.
Drawing on his experience in university management and in science administration at Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Dr. SHIBATA has a deep understanding that researcher-driven curiosity is the true engine of scientific progress. In his university roles, he has led administrative organizations and supported researchers through finance and human resources, enabling them to devote themselves fully to research in an excellent environment. In his current appointment at OIST, he is likewise expected to play a key role in strengthening support for researchers.
Dr. SHIBATA also possesses strong professional expertise in human resources and labor management. Most recently, he has served as an advisor to a consulting firm, engaging in the design of HR systems and providing strategic advice.
As he has stated during his previous tenure at OIST, Dr. SHIBATA places great importance on servant leadership. His core belief is that work should be carried out by supporting colleagues so that they can perform at their best and truly shine.
