Kyoto Prefectural Momoyama High School visited OIST as part of their school trip.

Mr. Masami Yamashiro gave a lecture on coral reef conservation under the theme “Creating the World’s Most Coral-Friendly Village.” The students learned about community-based initiatives for environmental preservation in the region.

This was followed by a lecture by Mr. Kai Christopher Maekawa from EF Polymer, an OIST startup, and he introduced how science and technology can contribute to addressing global and social challenges.

In the latter half of the program, students engaged in an interview session with OIST PhD students, gaining firsthand insights into their experiences and research. The discussion highlighted the importance of diversity and the role of cutting-edge science in solving global issues.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for the students to deepen their understanding of the relationship between science and society from both scientific and humanistic perspectives, while experiencing OIST’s diverse and international community.
