Disability accommodations

Haisai (greeting in Uchinaaguchi*) and welcome! If you are a current or incoming OIST employee or student and require disability accommodations at OIST, please email accessible@oist.jp.

What to expect

Step 1: Contact us

Please contact us at accessible@oist.jp. You may share a brief summary of your disability accommodations request in your email. If you prefer not to share your initial request in writing, you may simply request a meeting to discuss your disability accommodation needs in person or via virtual meeting.

Your message will be received by the Disability Support team, which includes two members of the Health Center and two members of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team. If you prefer to communicate in Japanese, please indicate this in your message, and a bilingual Japanese/English staff member will reply.

We take your privacy seriously and will not share your information without your consent.

Step 2: Schedule a welcome meeting

The Disability Support team will schedule a welcome meeting with you to discuss disability-related barriers you are experiencing, prior disability accommodations you may have had, discuss reasonable accommodations at OIST, and outline next steps. The Disability Support team will discuss necessary documentation and may request a follow-up meeting if needed.

If you are not sure what disability-related barriers you might experience, or if you do not have any documentation at the moment, please still feel free to contact us. Our priority is to meet with you.

Welcome meetings can be held in person or online.
