Ganjuu Wellbeing Services

“Ganjuu” is an Okinawan word meaning ‘good, well, strong, healthy’. To thrive in the OIST environment, it helps to have a certain level of Ganjuu! Many factors (for example, physical health, change, working environment, family and social relationships, life events, deadlines, skills and experience) can influence our wellbeing and ability to thrive. We aim to support and nurture Ganjuu in the whole OIST community so that together we can build opportunities from these challenges.

Who can access the service?

The Ganjuu Wellbeing Service is free and open to anyone who is part of the OIST community and living in Japan. This includes anyone who works (including part time and temp staff) or studies at OIST as well as the family members they live with. We provide services to children and adults and can work with individuals, couples, families, and groups.

What kind of support do we provide?

We provide flexible, time-limited, responsive services which can be in the form of workplace support, training, or more traditional individual, couple, family or group therapy sessions. We can meet with you in-person and/or online depending on your preferences. We produce workshops and seminars aimed at supporting skills development, individual and organizational wellbeing and a broader community culture of connection and belonging. We also have a library that offers a diverse collection of wellbeing themed books that you are welcome to loan. Please note, while we are here to support your wellbeing, we are not an emergency service. For urgent help, please contact emergency services or visit your nearest hospital. All books and services are provided in English and Japanese.
