Healthcare and sustainability are critical issues in the global agenda that we are facing today. Both deal with integrated open systems, such as biological systems and complex social systems, including energy and transportation. They are highly integrated, yet open-ended complex systems. The Integrated Open Systems Unit aims to understand the fundamental principles that govern open, complex systems and apply such knowledge for real-world applications through a series of global activities such as the Garuda Alliance and sustainable living.
