Their research on the fundamental understanding and applications of perovskite materials and solar cells is attracting attention.

OIST scientists named as highly cited researchers two years in a row

Professor Yabing Qi and Dr. Luis Katsuya Ono, both of the Energy Materials and Surface Sciences Unit at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), have made the 2022 list of Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate. This is the second year in a row that they have both been named on this list. The Clarivate's academic database, Web of Science, shows that the academic papers of Professor Qi and Dr. Ono are highly cited, with over 13,000 citations as of October 2022.

The list names the authors of the top 1% most cited papers in 22 research fields. This year's list includes 6,938 researchers from 69 countries and regions who have had a high impact in their fields of research over the past 10 years.

In response to this announcement, Professor Yabing Qi commented, "Both Luis and I are honored to be selected as a Highly Cited Researcher again this year. We would like to thank all our research unit members and collaborators for their hard work and outstanding contributions. We are also very grateful for the continued strong support for our research through the OIST’s R&D Cluster Programs and Proof of Concept (POC) Program, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI), and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) Adaptable and Seamless Technology transfer Program through target driven R&D (A-STEP) research grant. Many of our highly cited research works focus on metal halide perovskite materials and solar cells, which we have been studying for many years. We are eager to continue exploring these interesting materials and further advancing our perovskite solar cell technology towards commercialization. "
