A micromixer device with a T-shaped inlet was fabricated and its mixing efficiency quantitatively evaluated. (A) The device consists of a straight region, where mixing is not enhanced (hence the separated blue and yellow dye), and a twisted region, where mixing is enhanced (the dyes mix and become green); mixing efficiency was calculated from images taken at the end of each region. (B) Numerical simulations confirmed that mixing does not progress in the straight channel, whereas mixing is enhanced in the “twist + helix” channel.
