Prof. Hiroaki Kitano (above picture) and a team of researchers from Sony Computer Science Laboratories Inc. designed the Open Energy System, which creates a network of energy that distributes power intelligently.

The first prototype of the Quantum Wave Microscopy Unit's electron microscope, to be fully assembled in October 2013. 

Before coming to OIST, Dr. Yamashiro (above picture) pursued research in mainland Japan. At OIST he designs the vacuum chambers of the microscope.
