Laboratory Planner

The position

OIST was founded by the Japanese government to contribute to science and technology worldwide, attract leading researchers from Japan and abroad to conduct high-quality research, advance the development of a world-class research hub, and nucleate a knowledge cluster that will catalyze technology transfer and industrial innovation in Okinawa. In order to achieve this goal, we need to provide our researchers with a world-class research environment. The most important appointment of Facility Operation and Use section is to provide necessary various facility requirement to researchers to ensure success of research.

Position summary:
The Major objective of Facilities Operation of Use Section Laboratory Planner is supporting section manager to plan new laboratory. This position is also supporting the research unit during renovation process and after the launch of facility.

Responsibilities

1. Prepare new and/or renovation of researcher’s laboratory facility

  • Hearing with OIST researchers for laboratory requirements which include architecture/electric/HVAC/gas/plumbing/LAN/desks, etc.
  • Create floor plan and confirm with requestor
  • Ensure that the construction plans meet government safety requirements
  • Negotiate costs, schedules, etc. with the contractor to ensure that the requirements of both the requestor and the contractor are met.
  • Manage the construction schedule especially time of construction which may affect neighbors (noise/ smell)
  • Coordinate laboratory move-in/out
  • Approve each construction process under manager’s supervision.

2. Management of Laboratory Facility

  • Maintain the laboratory special gas supply as check amount of gas remains, and exchange gas cylinder if necessary.  
  • Devise and enforce measures to improve the safety of the Laboratory facility.  
  • Perform asset management in the laboratory facility
  • Schedule Laboratory Utility maintenance
Qualifications

(Required)

  1. BS or BA degree in College (BS preferred)
  2. Able to read and understand mechanical diagram.
  3. Fluent in Japanese
  4. Conversational English proficiency (TOEIC Score above 500 or equilibrant)
  5. Valid driving license in Japan

(Preferred)

  1. Practical activity experience in multicultural environment.
  2. Skill or working experience with CAD (Computer Aided Designing).
  3. Certificate of handling of hazardous materials.
  4. 2nd grade Electrician
