SEED Program: Nagasaki Minami High School visited OIST

On 11th December 2025, 35 Students from Nagasaki Minami High School visited OIST.

Students from Nagasaki Prefectural Nagasaki Minami High School gave poster presentations in English on their research projects and received feedback from OIST PhD students. Through the question-and-answer sessions, they deepened their understanding of their research while experiencing scientific communication in English.

This was followed by lectures from two researchers.
Dr. Mehmet Arif Zoral (Postdoctoral Scholar) introduced his research on diseases in aquatic animals such as fish and cephalopods, and spoke about effective disease management in aquaculture as well as his career as an international researcher.

Dr. Daulet Izbassarov (Visiting Researcher, Finnish Meteorological Institute) gave a lecture on how air quality affects human health. Using computer modeling, he explained how air pollution can be studied at different scales, from cities to indoor environments, and shared insights into his international research career.

At the end of the program, students joined a campus tour, where they visited OIST’s research facilities and experienced its cutting-edge research environment.
