SHIMA is an outreach workshop that aims to educate high school students about the sustainability of island ecosystems and cultures.

The concept of SHIMA is based on these interrelated pillars: "science education outreach activities", "engagement between OIST scientists and neighboring communities", and "understanding sustainable island ecosystems and cultures". It is a workshop for high school students addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and island sustainability.

・Participants from the main island of Okinawa will be dismissed around 3:00 p.m.
 Guardians will need to pick up their children from OIST
 Participants from the remote islands will be transported to Naha Airport by courtesy car.

【 Meeting point 】
The meeting point for the workshop will be at OIST.

Participants from Okinawa main island will need to arrange their own transportation to OIST (August 20th) and from OIST (August 22nd).

【 Accommodation and Meals 】
The workshop is of 3 days and 2 night. Accommodation and meals during the workshop will be provided by OIST.

【 Transportation 】
Transportation from the workshop venue to and from the accommodations will be provided by OIST.

For participants living on remote islands, OIST will provide the following in addition to the above.
・Round-trip airfare from the nearest airport to Naha Airport
・Round-trip transportation from Naha Airport to the workshop venue
