Marine Genomics Unit Decodes Asian Catfish Genome

OIST and Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology researchers have decoded the entire genome of the striped catfish, paving the wave for improved aquaculture of the species.

The Marine Genomics Units teamed with researchers at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to decode the striped catfish’s entire genome. Their results, published October 5, 2018, in BMC Genomics, reveal new details about the species’ evolutionary lineage and genes that may be key to its healthy development. The striped catfish is critically important commerical species in Southeast Asia and the study will contribute to its improved cultivation.
