SEED Program: Kyushu University Future Creators in Science Project(QFC-SP)
11 high school students from the Kyushu region participating in the Kyushu University Future Science Talent Development Project(QFC-SP) visited OIST and took part in a variety of programs, including discussions on PhD studies, a campus tour, student research presentations, career talks, and a lab visit.
In the morning session, a discussion session titled “What is a PhD?” was led by OIST PhD students Yuji Kanagawa (Neural Computation Unit) and
Morie Koseki(Complex fluids and flows Unit). Through the discussion, students explored research careers and the significance of pursuing a PhD degree. This was followed by an introduction to OIST and its PhD program, helping students deepen their understanding of studying and conducting research at OIST.
In the afternoon session, students presented their own research projects and received feedback from OIST PhD students. This was followed by career talks given by Callum James Hudson(Marine Climate Change Unit) and Arina Mazurova(Evolutionary and Synthetic Biology Unit), who shared their research experiences and career paths as researchers.
The program concluded with a visit to the Cybernetic Humanity Lab, where students learned about cutting-edge robotics technologies through research introductions and live demonstrations by OIST researchers.
