Work Experience Program for Kin Junior High School Students

Four students from Kin Junior High School participated in a work experience program at OIST on October 28 and 29, 2025.

This year, the students gained a broad understanding of OIST’s research environment through experiences in both research units and research support roles.

As part of their research experience in the Evolutionary Neurobiology Unit, they learned about the timing of muscle emergence during animal evolution and observed research animals up close in the laboratory. In the Neurobiology Research Unit, they heard from about her career path and her current research on the neural mechanisms of learning in the brain, followed by a lab tour. From the perspective of research support, the students also participated in an interpretation workshop conducted by the translation and interpretation team.

In addition, the students had the opportunity to talk with students from the Japanese language class over lunch. They also toured the OIST campus, including visits to the research buildings.

Through these experiences, the students deepened their understanding not only of cutting-edge scientific research, but also of the essential roles that support and communicate it — all at OIST.
